On October 20, 2024, Puerto Vallarta will host the First International Trash Fishing Tournament, an event design  the community in an urgent cause: cleaning our oceans. Organized by the civil association Limpia tu Mar Puerto Vallarta A.C., this tournament aims not only to remove solid waste from the ocean but also to raise awareness about the importance of proper waste management.

Each year, millions of tons of plastic are dumped into the oceans, and if we don't act now, it's estimated that by 2050, there could be more plastic than fish in our seas. Faced with this alarming reality, Limpia tu Mar Puerto Vallarta A.C., in collaboration with local businesses, hoteliers, NGOs, and tourism service providers, has decided to launch this tournament to address this environmental crisis.

What Does the Tournament Involve?

The tournament will bring together 50 boats, both sponsored and privately owned, with the goal of collecting at least one ton of solid waste from the sea. The participating teams, consisting of 4 to 6 people, will depart from the Muelle de los Muertos at 8:00 AM. The registration fee is 4000 pesos per team, with proceeds going toward funding future cleanup brigades that the association conducts weekly.

This tournament presents a unique opportunity to protect the enviroment. It is expected to educate and raise awareness within the community about the severity of marine pollution and the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling our waste.
