This Wednesday, June 4th, Playa del Holi in Puerto Vallarta will host the Festival of Monumental Kites for the Oceans, an initiative organized by Greenpeace Mexico as part of its ongoing campaign to protect the oceans and their biodiversity.
The event aims to raise public awareness about the serious pollution affecting marine ecosystems and to promote concrete actions to safeguard them. Through the display of large-format kites carrying symbolic messages, Greenpeace seeks to create a space for community gathering, artistic expression, and environmental advocacy.
The festival will be open to the public, family-friendly, and free of charge. In addition to the kite display, there will be educational activities, interactive sessions, and informational booths discussing the current state of Mexico’s oceans and the urgent need to establish marine protected areas.
Greenpeace emphasizes that events like this not only celebrate the natural beauty of our coasts but also provide an opportunity to amplify the urgent call to reduce plastic use, protect marine life, and demand real commitments from both government and the fishing industry.
Given Puerto Vallarta’s location and natural richness, the region plays a key role in this cause. The health of marine ecosystems directly impacts local biodiversity and the tourism-based economy, making this initiative particularly relevant to the local community.
The Festival of Monumental Kites for the Oceans will begin at 4:00 p.m. at Playa del Holi. Attendees are encouraged to bring water, sun protection, and, if they wish, their own kite to join the celebration.
