From October 11 to 14, Puerto Vallarta will welcome a special visit from the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Training Squadron. The ships Kashima and Shimakaze will dock at the port as part of a goodwill mission, strengthening ties between Mexico and Japan.
During these days, locals will have the opportunity to enjoy a series of cultural activities. On Saturday, October 12, at 9:00 a.m., the CETACI 63 auditorium will screen three Japanese films: “Chica de laca Tsugaru”, “The Father of the Milky Way Railroad”, and “Under the Open Sky”. Additionally, there will be traditional Japanese dance performances and Koto music, a traditional Japanese instrument.
On the same day, the Shimakaze will be open to the public at two different times: from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:00 to 3:30 p.m. In the afternoon, at 5:00 p.m., the Arcos del Malecón will host a free concert featuring the Mexican Navy Band and Japanese musicians.
On Sunday, October 13, both the Kashima and Shimakaze will again welcome visitors during the same time slots. These ships, with a crew of 558, include 192 newly graduated officers, symbolizing the cooperation and cultural exchange between Mexico and Japan.
This visit is not only an opportunity to learn more about Japanese culture but also to strengthen the historic relationship between both nations.
